Yesterday’s girl’s lacrosse game between Millburn (6-1) and Pope John (7-0) was tense to say the least. Pope John started the game off strong scoring their first goal within 50 seconds. They gained momentum scoring another goal relatively quickly.  After their bad start, the Millers turned it around. They managed to tie the score at 3 to 3. Millburn’s offense seemed to be coming together as well as their defense. The Millers had managed to make a couple of key stops in an effort to turn the game around. The score at the end of the half was 4 to 5 with Pope John just edging the Millers.

In the second half, however, the Millers just couldn’t match the Lions. It seemed as though Pope John had won every face-off, and the Lady Millers could not get the ball. Pope John eventually took a heavy lead and there was no way for the Millers to mount a comeback.

Looking on the bright side, Junior Maria Garber played an outstanding game for the Lady Millers managing to score three goals on the day. Moreover, the Lady Millers had scored the more goals than any other opponent of Pope John thus far this season. That’s an impressive feat in itself.

Ultimately, the Lady Miller’s lost the game by a score of 5 to 16. The Lady Millers record is now 6-2 on the season meanwhile the Lions of Pope John improved their record to an undefeated 8-0. After their last loss to Mount Olive, the Lady Millers responded with a win in their next game, so lets hope they can do the same this time.
