The men’s basketball Friday night showdown between Verona and the Millers was one for the ages. Verona entered the contest at a perfect 6-0, facing a 4-2 Millburn squad that looked to bounce back from a loss 24 hours earlier.
It was a dog fight from beginning to end, with both teams within striking distance through all four quarters. Verona extended their four point half time lead to 11 in the third period. Despite the imbalance of momentum, and the help of a lively crowd, the Millers cut into that deficit, shrinking Verona’s lead to two possessions.
With the help of Zach Ravitz at the center of an impenetrable defense the Millers were able to contain Verona’s strong backcourt. On the other end of the floor, Ravitz found Will Rosenberg underneath for the easy layup to take the lead for the first time since the first quarter. Millburn never looked back.
In the end it was Millburn that prevailed to take down the undefeated conference rival. Ross Gang and Ravitz finished with 16 points each. Jack Farrell led the Hillbillies with 13 points and three triples. Travis Jocelyn finished with 12 points including a highlight real dunk. In the end it was Millburn that prevailed to take down the undefeated conference rival.
