MILLBURN, NJ – The Millburn Football Millers struggled as a team during their 2016 campaign, scraping only one win against Belleville, while suffering nine losses. The team finished near the bottom of their NJSFC – Freedom White Division. However, the Millers finished with some individual accomplishments to celebrate. Seven players made Freedom White-All Division Teams.

Senior offensive tackle Ross Koplitz was elected to the Freedom White All-First Team. Koplitz has been one of the premiere forces on the offensive front for the Millers for a few years now, protecting the weak side. Although Koplitz has drawn interest from division-II teams, it seems improbable that he will pursue football in college.

Benefiting from Koplitz’s stellar season, Junior quarterback Peter Serruto was selected to the All-Division Second Team. Serruto finished the season with 91 completed passes for 1,021 yards, while scoring 10 touchdowns. This was Serruto’s second year as the starting QB on the Varsity squad. However, he was tasked with the responsibility of the offense for the first time this year, following the graduation of Millburn’s all-time leading rusher, Zach Weinstein, last year. Serruto was not the only Miller Junior that made All-Division though.

Junior free safety Davis Mosier was also selected to the all Freedom White Second Team. Mosier missed the first half of the season due to a devastating concussion days before the season opener. Mosier was supposed to be Millburn’s premiere ball carrier and middle linebacker. When he returned, Coach Chris Drechsel moved Mosier over to free safety, while Senior Nick Tortoriello ran the defense very well as the starting middle linebacker.

Two Seniors made the Freedom White Second Defensive Team. Pass rusher Jeff Rosenthal capped off his high school career with the honor. He finished the year with 51 total tackles. Along with Rosenthal, Matt Sullivan was rewarded for a stellar season of 74 total tackles with second team honors as well.

However, the Millers were not only recognized for their efforts on offense and defense. Seniors Drew Pickard (punter) and Jack Kirshenbaum (kicker) were selected to the all-division second team for special teams. Pickard averaged close to 31 yards on each of his 40 punts, pinning six inside the 20 yard line. Kirshenbaum split the uprights on 90% of his point after attempts, and single handedly scored 18 points for the Millers in 2016.
